Jay Nixon’s Hypocrisy Knows No Bounds

June 26, 2012

SAINT LOUIS, MO – Dave Spence, Republican candidate for governor, today urged Governor Jay Nixon to stop lying to Missourians regarding his position on Obamacare.  Remarkably, just days before the United States Supreme Court is set to release its decision on the Affordable Care Act, popularly referred to as Obamacare, Jay Nixon made outrageous claims that he has been “pretty clear” on his position regarding this issue.  Nixon insinuated that he has not supported Obamacare in the past.  Unfortunately for Nixon, who never lets the truth stand in the way of what’s politically expedient, email documents obtained from his office prove that he was in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama on Obamacare policy and messaging.  Coupled with the fact that Nixon did not join the twenty-seven states who sued to stop Obamacare, it’s “pretty clear” that Nixon has lied to Missourians about where he actually stands/stood on this issue.

“Jay Nixon refused to join the lawsuits against Obamacare, he caved to pressure from the Obama Administration and refused to sign letters to congressional leaders with other governors expressing concerns about Obamacare and he participated on calls with Nancy Pelosi as Obamacare was being shoved down the throats of Missourians,” said Spence.  “Jay Nixon now claiming it was ‘pretty clear’ the individual mandate is not something that he thinks is good is outrageous revisionist history at best and more likely a bold-faced lie that’s an insult to Missourians.”

The Spence campaign today challenged Jay Nixon to point to one prior on the record comment, or letter, or speech, or email, or tweet, or FaceBook post or hand written note, or message in a bottle that would support his ridiculous claim that his stance against Obamacare has been “pretty clear.”  What is VERY CLEAR is that Jay Nixon’s history of saying or doing anything to get elected continues to the detriment of hard working Missourians who deserve better.
